FAKE BAKE’s fave 13
- a pre-glimpse into A/W ‘19 accessories…
Sleek, simple and
forever: Tamara Mellon
We are
hanging onto summer for as long as we can, but when your flip-flops feel tired
and your sunglasses have too many stories to tell, your thoughts turn to the
new season on its way: the rustle of leaves and of tissue-lined accessory bags
never, ever gets old for us at Team Fake
Bake. As yet, we have still not had that Euro Millions win. (If we do,
we’ll let you know. Or we will get our people to let you know!) But it’s
certainly a time of year for a little bit of autumnal dreaming.
Also this:
whilst our nannas have been going on at us for ages to save up for ‘good’ stuff
and buy less cheap throwaways, we are starting to get the message. Buy less, and try more of the best. Yep, that 2.55 budget isn’t us quite yet, but we
are all about falling in love with forever pieces, adding one per season
wherever poss, and then creating something in our wardrobes which is all about
quality and less about landfill.
Autumn/Winter 2019, what’s in store? Well, it’s all about reworked
classics which are totally contemporary, and a little bit ladylike to boot.
Even the highest end of labels are recognising that accessories are where it’s at when it comes to investing in
fashion. Back in the day, it was Karl
Lagerfeld who took fashion out of ballrooms and took inspiration from what
he saw on the pavements. Now designers are making sure that when we hit the
streets, we can couture it up in style.
We’ve
whittled our choices down to 13.
Unlucky for some, but not for us this week. Bring on the treasures….
Dior Boots It Up
Dior have gone through the history books,
and designer Maria Grazia Chiuri has
taken the very best of the couture house’s famous pieces and made them brand
new. The monochrome Saddle is a big hit, but for us these boots are made for
walking, and walking and walking. (We’ve got our Fake Bake Flawless ready as whatever the weather, we are not doing
pasty pins with these beauties…)
Isabel Marant Takes The Belt Bigger
and Bolder
Marant is
the queen of cool. Bigger, wider belts are
everywhere this season and while we love the structured ones, this more casual,
almost Western-styled piece is perfect for layering over a jumpsuit.
Magnificence in leather.
A little LV never hurt anybody
This is the investment bag of all time, plus
you don’t have to give yourself a torn shoulder with it. Either clutch it or
throw it across yourself, it has a little bit of structure but can be dressed
down. Well, about as dressed down as LV
ever gets. We don’t want to mention Christmas yet, but for this bag, we are
definitely putting our feels out into the Universe.
Moschino matchy-matchy
Matching
your earrings to your necklace is usually your Auntie Val at a wedding. But
thanks to the tongue-in-cheek chic at
Moschino, it’s time to make like Val and stop messing about with layering and
do the decent thing. Chanel are at
it as well, so it’s a major, major trend. But this look is the bomb. Plus,
Auntie Val would totes approve of the big hair and the keep-you-warm-sweater.
Say ‘Allo ‘Allo to Chanel beret
perfection
This look is
everything. Firstly, the monochrome,
tweed beret is all we want for this new season. Suiting is back in a big
way, too, as are shoulder pads. (Looks like you are going to be raiding Auntie
Val’s wardrobe on the regular!) Add huge earrings and a golden glow.
Ferragamo Mary Janes: the shoe of the
season
Carrie Bradshaw went Mary Jane
hunting in the Vogue accessories cupboard for a reason. The MJ just has that back-to-school
feeling for us, and these teal beauties with the crystal heel are less about
school rules and more about luxury lessons. Wear with gleaming shins and a back
row attitude.
Chanel is all about the transparent
spectacle
Leave behind
over-fussy summer sunnies and heavy-framed glasses, and take it back to a
simple frame. Top of the class this time around.
Emilia Wickstead takes the pearl and
makes it huge
This totally
British label loves a bit of tongue-in-cheek and these whoppers hit every trend
being both pearl-based and absolutely huge. We are also feeling the red lip.
Gucci makes being snakey, current
Sometimes too much Gucci is not very Gucci. But
this little gem is enough to fit in your credit card, lipstick and keys to your
private jet. And there’s another power suit again. We don’t really have much
power, but we feel that the suit is a must-have.
Choo goes rambling
Thinking up
ways to re-invent the trainer is a huge ask, even for the best design teams,
but we were on the hunt for something new and along these came. Modelled to
perfection by Sienna Miller, a
legendary accessories queen in her own right, these are just remarkable.
Celine is all about the luxury wine
Butter-soft knee-length boots are just the thing for this new
season, and this label is all about the luxe. We love the shade, and the
layered leather look. Not so great for driving in but then again, your
chauffeur won’t be wearing them. You will.
Dior saddles up once more
This design
is nothing new. Monochrome is nothing new. But together? Oh my: heaven squared.
Burberry goes for class in a clutch
Mr. Tisci has taken everything we love about Burberry and made it fresh. A clutch is
a classic, and these neutral tones are grown up and fabulous.
(Auntie Val
would deffo approve…)
Now, of
course, we will be off around the High Street to see what we can snap up, but
in the meantime, for total inspo, we spotted how to put the new approaching
season together by two of our favourite Instagram beauties.
@therealfashion blogger
does head-to-toe LV in style
(Our James Harknett is
her go-to tanner - Fake Bake, natch!)
@batgio is style on
wheels right down to those Aquazurra kicks
And all we
can do now is hope, pray, cross our fingers and let the Universe decide where
our accessories journey will take us, and we do hope D. Attenborough knows that
we are getting the message about less being more.
Until then,
we are off round to Auntie Val’s for tea and for our weekly pocket money she
still gives us.
There’s
nothing wrong with that is there? Plus she’s got a drawer full of big belts and
she’s told us she’s got some huge, framed bins, too. They could be more Deirdre
Barlow than Hayley Beiber, but you can find an awful lot of treasure rummaging
whilst The Chase is on.
Living our
best lives? From head-to-toe, darling……
