FAKE BAKE goes to the NTA’s - tanning and drama, the perfect night out…

Sometimes as a brand, we work with certain companies or at events and have a ball. We are really enjoying our Dancing On Ice stint at the moment, and we love the team at ITV so much, we were more than happy to be the Official Tanning Partner at the National Television Awards for yet another year and, as a little reward to some of our fave celebs and hard working Team Fake Bake members, we also got to party stage side once everyone was ready to tan and roll.

What is it about these awards that gets everyone talking? They have been going a long time now, and are getting more competitive as each year passes, and ITV do tend to bring home a lot of the prizes. How can anyone in category with I’m A Celebrity or The Chase hold out hopes of winning? There are always exceptions, though, and Strictly Come Dancing is hard to beat, and it was great to see Danny Dyer win for his role in Eastenders. He really is the guv’nor.

We spotted so many Fake Bake tans on the red carpet and friends of the brand that it became impossible to count. Jess Wright and Gemma Collins looked super glam, as always, and of course, it always feels like the real drama gets saved for the main event: the after parties! But for Team Fake Bake there was a massive task to carry out first: to get from Glasgow to London, in record time, and get everyone ready before they could even think about posing for the cameras.

Our Fake Bake leading ladies Victoria and Emily headed up the team, and these two are more than used to VIP tanning by now - and they still kept everyone in good spirits, quelling nerves alongside our fave hair and beauty experts, to make sure everyone was red carpet ready in just a few hours. And we have to say, we are pretty proud of their work, because everyone looked stunning by the time they got papped!

Our fabulous Victoria looked glam and glowing herself by the time she got to clink glasses with Josie Gibson, who we managed to prize away from her beautiful new son, Reggie James, for one night only…

Love Island’s Ellie looked super-glam and major league hot. Our team used loads of our finishing products to get that lovely skin sheen. In January, you have to, it’s as simple as that…..

Our gorgeous friend, Helen Flanagan, looked so elegant and chic in her draped dress, updo and dazzling jewellery. She’s all grown up now, and she suits it well….

What can we say about Lydia Rose Bright? Our own Essex Carrie Bradshaw, she always goes fashion forward and this year went really bold with this gorge, backless dress. As always, her undone hair and accessories were spot on. And that flawless back proves that sometimes, it really is best to let a Fake Bake pro loose with a spray gun…

Megan McKenna is never far from the headlines and we cannot wait to see her on Celebs Go Dating. She’s such an in demand girl right now with her music career, too, and BTS she’s an absolute sweetheart. In front of the cameras? An absolute dream and her Fake Bake tan is seamless…

Love Island’s Alexandra looked like a Hollywood movie star - we couldn’t believe how absolutely beautiful she is in real life, and a dream to tan…

We met Jake Quickenden properly on DOI last year, and it was love at first sight. Jake went for a Fake Bake Darker spray tan and top-to-toe tailoring. What an absolute sort…

We love working with Love Island’s Laura Anderson as, obviously, being from the same part of the world, we are so proud of her success. She looked an absolute knockout, as always, and is always our type on paper, or on the red carpet…

Once the ceremony was underway, we settled in our stage-side box and really enjoyed the sights and sounds of the show, Westlife being a highlight for the girls. Everyone enjoyed their Fake Bake goodies and it was wonderful to relax and catch up with some of our fave stars.

Power couple Josh Cuthbert and Chloe Lloyd both opted for chic black and gave us all a lesson in class dressing. Every style detail was on point. Swoon, literally.

Every year, the media is filled with NTA After Show stories and they are never happy until there has been an argument or at least a bit of snarling going on. It must have been going on somewhere else, because we had a drama-free time, but let’s just say, we were feeling it the next morning. One of our best clients, Charlotte Dawson, even managed to look chuffing gorgeous the next morning. Well, lucky for Charlotte it’s her job to look this stunning the morning after and not Team Fake Bake’s….

We had an amazing night and it is a real reward for some of our team to see their efforts take centre stage. It makes all of that hard work worth it. Will we be back next year? Try stopping us. And we managed to get through a whole post there without mentioning Holly Willoughby’s dress. (It was fabulous, BTW!)

And while we love hanging out with some really lovely people, who also happen to be famous, it also reminds us of why we like being civilians. We get to mix with the real influencers, movers and shakers, and on a freezing cold night, we don’t need to walk a red carpet for a couple of hours.

And even when we did nip out for a look, we didn’t bother taking our coats. We might not be famous but we are from Glasgow. You don’t think a cold night in January scares us, do you?

Good.

Fake Bake talks scandal on ice, and getting the perfect long lasting glow with our Tan Expert, Eloise…..

Remember when Dancing On Ice used to be a quiet little Sunday night TV programme you might watch with your mum? Or your nan? Well, this year has been more like Drama On Ice, and everyone has been getting involved. Our gal Megan (of Wes And Megan) has been called out for not smiling enough when the camera turned to her after a performance by Wes. Ridic. Now even Piers Morgan is wading into the Gemma/Jason story. It’s certainly had us talking. All we can say is we know Gemma and have worked with her many times and she’s a sweetheart. But if you sign The GC, then you get The GC, and she’s going to turn up with her candy and forthright views. Whatever, we loved her Marilyn inspired look, because who wouldn’t want to float around the ice with Matt Evers as the world’s most beloved movie star?

This year, just as last, we have been working behind the scenes as Team Fake Bake get the celebs and pro skaters ice and camera ready and all we can say is they work super hard, and every last one of them has been a delight in a tent. The amount of rehearsal and dress rehearsal time they put in together is staggering, and it’s not just a dancefloor they have to contend with, either. We caught up with one of our Elite Tanners, Eloise, who we also know as the Tan Expert, to ask her advice about getting camera ready, and making your tan last. Eloise has worked in the industry for fifteen years now, with a decade of experience as an expert tanner, and she’s also a highly experienced qualified trainer, so let’s just so she lives up to her ‘expert’ name….

This season of DOI is already hotting up, what’s it like getting the stars and pros ready?

It really is lovely seeing them behind the scenes as they get so excited for the following day! We tan everyone the day before they go live, so it’s a really busy time and a hectic schedule for everyone. It’s a whole lot of tanning going on! I love the show anyway, but as a professional I also like to see how their Fake Bake tans turn out. On a personal level, it’s wonderful to see the stars you get to know go out there and give it their best.

Can you give us your top tips to help us re-create your long lasting DOI Fake Bake tan at home?

Exfoliation is as important as application! Always exfoliate at least 12 hours before you tan, too, so your skin has a chance to settle. Of course I love Fake Bake Coconut Body Polish as it is fine and yet so effective.
I am going for a long lasting tan I tend to opt for a liquid or a lotion application, so either Fake Bake Original Self Tan Lotion or our new Fake Bake Gold 8 oz Kit With Mitt are amazing.

The days following application are all about preservation! Shower rather than bathe, and continue to lock in your tan with a moisturiser designed for the job, like our Fake Bake Coconut Oil Free Moisturiser.
Avoid swimming baths and saunas if you really want your tan to last. Our formulas fade evenly and naturally anyway, but if you want to get started again quickly you can remove your previous tan with our Fake Bake Tan Corrector and Eraser.
It is really gentle and means you are good to go for you next application.

As one of Fake Bake’s leading Elite Tanners what advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into the industry?

It’s simple - to start off with get booked onto one of our Fake Bake Professional Training Courses and then practice, practice, practice! Have your kit ready and aim to do ten tans in the first week. Complete one or two a day and ask your family and friends to model - you will usually find lots of willing volunteers! Once you have mastered the art of the perfect Pro Fake Bake tan, it’s time to get promoting your business on social media! And also get your clients to post about you. Instagram is really great for new businesses, and Instagram Stories allow you to be up-to-date and keep people interested - everyone loves clicking on to a good story! You also need to have really good interpersonal skills and customer service are so important. And remember, most people are going to be nervous, so it’s vital to make them feel comfortable. If you want to make this your profession, then it really is a full time job which requires practice and dedication and get ready for long working hours, so you can fit around your clients! As a brand, Fake Bake are brilliant at providing ongoing support, they are always coming up with new, innovative formulas and their own promotion online enables you to join in, too!

We love keeping up with you on social media, Eloise. What are your plans for 2019?

Funnily enough the busier you get, the less times you often have for social media, so this year I am planning more Live Q&A sessions, and generally being more interactive and communicative. I am looking forward to a packed year ahead - I have worked with some amazing VIP clients. I have my favourites but it’s always a joy watching new up-and-coming names and watching them progress. I really do love my job, and I hope that is always reflected in my work.

We are having a ball working on DOI and everyone at Team Fake Bake is in awe of what the couples put together just to entertain us. Have we picked our winner? Well, there are a few names in the frame, but you know, what goes on BTS stays BTS…..

FAKE BAKE on new nudes, fresh wardrobe hacks and dialling down the extra…

If you are a part of Team Fake Bake then, like us, you will have fallen in love with Stacey Dooley long before Strictly. Last year, we really enjoyed her documentary series over on the BBC iPlayer, with one memorable episode about how we are consuming far too much fashion. Eh, we thought. Come again? But also, like us, if you’ve entered 2019 feeling a bit overwhelmed with pretty much everything, then stick with us. We’ve decided to come clean. No, we are not going to steam our bits and bobs a la Gwyneth, but we’ve been talking about taking back our individuality and dialing down the extra.

Is it just us, or is everyone starting to look exactly the same?  It’s the identical look, everywhere. Whether it’s on the pavement or on Insta, there’s only so much more we can take of the look. Come on, we don’t need to tell you what it is. You m Future Inspo Board to keep us at one with our new mantra: less doesn’t always mean more, but we’re a bit bored with overdone eyebrows, comedy lip liner and that white stripe down your nose that doesn’t actually give you a smaller nose, it just looks like a white stripe down your nose. Highlighter can be a bad, huge mistake in untrained hands. And just for the record, we are all for a bit of fakery. It’s how you fake it that counts!
ight be wearing it now. Some of us certainly have. When you have the identikit look that is becoming a uniform, how do you get noticed? We’ve swerved Pinterest and been putting together our own

Less of the doll, more of the Suki Waterhouse

Ferragamo is one of those Italian brands that used to be a bit dusty but is now on fire. And when we saw their new fragrance ads starring Suki Waterhouse, we spied her look and sighed. It’s the very opposite of same-y. We absolutely adore the undone hair, it is fresh and magnificent. Limbs? Subtle and sheeny. Everything is glam but with a huge hint of Brit street. (We know that effortless takes a whole lot of time, but you catch our drift).

Our Key Product: Fake Bake Flawless Coconut Tanning Serum for Face and Body - the perfect self tan for undone glam.

Not just another Choo story

OK, OK, we can keep our big trainers. Not only are they flattering to the ankle, we are also aware that they are actually so comfy they are hard to give up. When we saw Kaia Gerber’s new campaign for Jimmy Choo we jumped for joy. That’s what we mean. Let’s reclaim casual. No, we don’t mean look like you have fallen out of a skip (we save that for Sundays) but less of the Barbie Goes Jogging, more of the supermodel hanging around. Never has a sweatshirt looked so alluring.

(We also heart the cute hat and cat’s eye glasses. Choo accessories, too? Why not?)

Our Key Product: Fake Bake Flawless Self Tan Liquid for a casual weekend glow.

Make dress up a Bohemian Rhapsody

Some red carpet looks make young women look like extras from a on old, vintage ep of Dynasty. Boho became such a dirty, unstylish word for almost a decade, but it’s time to reclaim it and take it into the night. Forget skintight and overly structured, we want something flowing, detailed and pretty spectacular, as worn Stateside by fashion supremo and E! Style Expert Zanna Rassi,  at last week’s Golden Globes. You want to look you are stepping off a yacht and onto a beach party. Are you with us? Good.

Our Key Product: Fake Bake Flawless Darker Self Tan Lotion for an international tan.

Jodie is never in the Corner

Do you ever look at a MUA post and the product list is longer than a University thesis? Why have one foundation when you can use five? We are not Make-Up Refusers. We love our cosmetics hauls. But, while a look works online, have you ever seen one in daylight and thought, Hold Up? It’s TOO Much. So when we spied this look on Jodie Comer in Wonderland we thought, these people are on to something. Buffed skin, clean eyeliner and a statement lip. And a hint of a golden glow. Go on then.

Our Key Product: Fake Bake The Face Self Tan Lotion for a killer complexion.

Nude is always an option

Whatever your skin shade there is now a mood to match and we are looking forward to Spring days when we ditch boring opaques and go a bit more international. Our header image is giving us inspo right now: the shiny hair, the lush shades and the sense of effortless chic make the change. How many more sleeps until that can happen?

Our Key Product: Fake Bake Double Shot Espresso tan for a seriously Italian tan.

Go Kondo

This is clearly not our dressing room, but we love the tidiness of it. If you are looking for something to watch, catch Marie Kondo’s new Netflix series. Keep only things you love. If you don’t love them let them go. Kiss them goodbye and thank them for giving you joy. The same could be said for your beauty products - get rid of mouldy eyeliners, clumpy mascaras and dry lipsticks. When it comes to tanning? Streamline your routine and stick to a great brand where all of the products are designed to work together. No more scratchy exfoliators and dried up tan towels. We have a few new launches ready for the year. Watch this space and make a little room for Fake Bake.

So there you have it. You don’t have to completely change your style outlook but maybe it’s time to step away from the crowd and think about what you really adore, and what suits you. Get ready for a chic ‘19 and remember that small changes keep moving you forward and leave you with the headspace and energy to tackle the big ones. And our advice for that? Well, we thought we’d leave you with Sandra Oh, as she has it spot on.

As you were.

FAKE BAKE talks ultimate 2019 goals…..

We are pleased to announce that we have stopped eating mince pies for breakfast. We haven’t tried the new Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll yet, but we are going to give it a go. We haven’t been making our summer bodies during winter, just yet, but we have to admit it’s time to start thinking about new season clothes not consisting of several layers. New Year’s Resolutions can be a tough ask when you make too many at once, and then end up failing a couple of weeks in. Talking of Dry January, how are you coping?

So we thought here at Team Fake Bake we’d look at aspirations and inspirations to keep us going over the next few weeks, for when your daydreaming is suggesting a lovely trip to the Maldives, but your bank balance is more day trip to Margate.

Inspo 1 - No More Streaks, Ever….

You’d think everyone at Team Fake Bake sports a completely flawless tan, at all times. Our self tans are designed to be foolproof and they go on like a dream. Several of them are called Flawless - the clue is in the title. But yes, even we make the odd mistake from time to time. With busy lifestyles and distractions it’s easy to miss a bit or make a mess of your ankles. So as well as tanning more mindfully this year, as in not trying to throw it on in five minutes with one eye on Netlfix, we also have a fabulous new Fake Bake addition to help us out should we make a mistake. We call it our ultimate backstop.

Welcome to Fake Bake Tan Corrector & Eraser

Our latest launch has two leading roles. First up, it clears up unsightly errors in just 2-3 minutes, which is perfect if you’ve been a bit too keen on one knee and not on the other. Secondly, it’s also brilliant before your next tan application. Our self tans are designed to fade evenly but, depending on your skin tone, you may have a few stubborn patches. With this little wonder, you can start your next Fake Bake treatment with completely primed skin. It’s Mango fragrance makes it a real treat to use, and its Aloe Vera content makes it gentle on skin.

Inspo 2 - go a bit Gaga

Yes, we do love a bit of understated chic, but we have decided when we have anything to celebrate this year, we are going for it. Lada Gaga has just wowed the Golden Globes in this Valentino dress, and not only do we absolutely love her tanning look, we adore that her hair matches the dress. OK, so maybe we won’t match our hair to every oufit, but it’s a real lesson in dressing up, showing up, and celebrating your achievements.

Inspo 3 - Get A Bit Coral Shady

Did you know there is now a Shade of the Year, and this year it is coral? Well, you do now. And it’s quite a hard shade to rock in winter but come Spring/Summer it’s something we can definitely get on board with. Whether you sport it on fingers, toes and lips, go for it with accessories, or do the whole head-to-toe thing, it’s the perfect hue to go with a golden glow. We want this look from Brandon Maxwell. No explanation needed.

Inspo 4 - forget Day Drinking, it’s all about the Day Dressing….

Put your hands up if you wear gym outfits during the day and you don’t actually go to the gym? So it’s not just us then. Oh, the allure of leggings and a ponytail. It’s just one step up from pyjamas, and if you don’t have a red face and look a bit puffed out, everyone knows your casual look is becoming a leisurewear habit. We are not suggesting you go Golden Globes to go to the supermarket, but sometimes putting a bit of legwork in for a day look leaves you feeling fresh and fabulous. We absolutely heart this look on @therealfashionblogger, tan courtesy of James Harknett, Fake Bake’s Global Creative Consultant. It’s time to make the street your catwalk again. Bin the leggings. Go on, we dare you.

Inspo 5 - do a GC and Prove Everyone Wrong

We tanned Gemma Collins and Matt Evers for the Dancing On Ice launch, and since then we’ve been waiting for The GC’s arrival on ice, and we were not disappointed. We really admire Gemma’s determination, the fact that she’s admitted she’s nervous but has also given it her all at the same time. From the vision in gold, to the splits and hair flicks, sometimes it’s all about attitude. And in the lady’s words herself, when you look in the mirror, see Beyonce.

Ain’t that a great rule to live by?

We can’t wait for another award winning year here at Team Fake Bake, and we look forward to involving you all, every step of the way.

Be a little more Diva, get your coral on and know that if you make a little slip up, we are here to help. Get out of those leggings and go live a little larger. One month at a time….
