If you are a part of Team
Fake Bake then, like us, you will have fallen in love with Stacey Dooley long before Strictly. Last year, we really enjoyed
her documentary series over on the BBC
iPlayer, with one memorable episode about how we are consuming far too much
fashion. Eh, we thought. Come again? But also, like us, if you’ve entered 2019
feeling a bit overwhelmed with pretty much everything, then stick with us.
We’ve decided to come clean. No, we are not going to steam our bits and bobs a
la Gwyneth, but we’ve been talking about taking back our individuality and
dialing down the extra.
Is it just us, or is everyone
starting to look exactly the same? It’s the identical look, everywhere. Whether
it’s on the pavement or on Insta, there’s only so much more we can take of the
look. Come on, we don’t need to tell you what it is. You m Future Inspo
Board to keep us at one with our new mantra: less doesn’t always mean more,
but we’re a bit bored with overdone eyebrows, comedy lip liner and that white
stripe down your nose that doesn’t actually give you a smaller nose, it just
looks like a white stripe down your nose. Highlighter can be a bad, huge
mistake in untrained hands. And just for the record, we are all for a bit of
fakery. It’s how you fake it that counts!
ight be wearing it
now. Some of us certainly have. When you have the identikit look that is
becoming a uniform, how do you get noticed? We’ve swerved Pinterest and been
putting together our own
Less of the doll,
more of the Suki Waterhouse
Ferragamo is one
of those Italian brands that used to be a bit dusty but is now on fire. And
when we saw their new fragrance ads starring Suki Waterhouse, we spied her look and sighed. It’s the very
opposite of same-y. We absolutely adore the undone hair, it is fresh and magnificent. Limbs? Subtle and sheeny.
Everything is glam but with a huge hint of Brit street. (We know that effortless
takes a whole lot of time, but you catch our drift).
Our Key Product: Fake
Bake Flawless Coconut Tanning Serum for Face and Body - the perfect self tan
for undone glam.
Not just another Choo
story
OK, OK, we can keep our big trainers. Not only are they
flattering to the ankle, we are also aware that they are actually so comfy they
are hard to give up. When we saw Kaia
Gerber’s new campaign for Jimmy Choo
we jumped for joy. That’s what we mean. Let’s reclaim casual. No, we don’t
mean look like you have fallen out of a skip (we save that for Sundays) but
less of the Barbie Goes Jogging, more of the supermodel hanging around. Never
has a sweatshirt looked so alluring.
(We also heart the cute hat and cat’s eye glasses. Choo accessories, too? Why not?)
Our Key Product: Fake
Bake Flawless Self Tan Liquid for a casual weekend glow.
Make dress up a
Bohemian Rhapsody
Some red carpet looks make young women look like extras from
a on old, vintage ep of Dynasty. Boho became such a dirty, unstylish
word for almost a decade, but it’s time to reclaim it and take it into the
night. Forget skintight and overly structured, we want something flowing,
detailed and pretty spectacular, as worn Stateside
by fashion supremo and E! Style Expert Zanna Rassi, at last week’s Golden Globes. You want to look you are stepping off a yacht and
onto a beach party. Are you with us? Good.
Our Key Product: Fake
Bake Flawless Darker Self Tan Lotion for an international tan.
Jodie is never in the
Corner
Do you ever look at a MUA post and the product list is
longer than a University thesis? Why have one foundation when you can use five?
We are not Make-Up Refusers. We love our cosmetics hauls. But, while a look
works online, have you ever seen one in daylight and thought, Hold Up? It’s TOO
Much. So when we spied this look on Jodie
Comer in Wonderland we thought, these people are on to something. Buffed
skin, clean eyeliner and a statement lip. And a hint of a golden glow. Go on
then.
Our Key Product: Fake
Bake The Face Self Tan Lotion for a killer complexion.
Nude is always an
option
Whatever your skin shade there is now a mood to match and we
are looking forward to Spring days when we ditch boring opaques and go a bit
more international. Our header image is giving us inspo right now: the shiny
hair, the lush shades and the sense of effortless chic make the change. How
many more sleeps until that can happen?
Our Key Product: Fake
Bake Double Shot Espresso tan for a seriously Italian tan.
Go Kondo
This is clearly not our dressing room, but we love the
tidiness of it. If you are looking for something to watch, catch Marie Kondo’s new Netflix series. Keep
only things you love. If you don’t love them let them go. Kiss them goodbye and
thank them for giving you joy. The same could be said for your beauty products
- get rid of mouldy eyeliners, clumpy mascaras and dry lipsticks. When it comes
to tanning? Streamline your routine and stick to a great brand where all of the products are designed to work
together. No more scratchy exfoliators and dried up tan towels. We have a
few new launches ready for the year. Watch this space and make a little room for Fake Bake.
So there you have it. You don’t have to completely change
your style outlook but maybe it’s time to step away from the crowd and think
about what you really adore, and what suits you. Get ready for a chic ‘19 and
remember that small changes keep moving you forward and leave you with the
headspace and energy to tackle the big ones. And our advice for that? Well, we
thought we’d leave you with Sandra Oh,
as she has it spot on.
As you were.
