FAKE BAKE on winter sun, the wit of Whitmore and the greatest recoupling of ALL TIME…

FAKE BAKE on winter sun, the wit of Whitmore and the greatest recoupling of ALL TIME…

How are we feeling about podcasts? Overwhelmed, perhaps? We love having a listen to something about health, wellbeing, and wheatgrass shots. But when it comes to down to our first choice, the one we won’t miss, then it has to be The Morning After masterpiece, featuring Arielle Free and Kem Cetinay.

With these two, we already have form. We first met Kem on Dancing On Ice (where he still features, as he was too good to let go!) and we absolutely adore Arielle, and are so proud of her, after she became part of the team at Radio 1 last autumn. When we are working weekends, she gives us the kick we need with her breakfast show.

Before we even have our regular Love Island dial-ins, Arielle and Kem provide us with all the talking points we need.

We are now well settled in with this new winter Love Island presence, although it was odd at first. There were times during last summer’s when we thought we were actually as hot as the contestants (you know what we mean!) now we are in thermal onesies left over from Christmas. Our winter bodies are made in winter, and we are more than happy with that.

What is that keeps us fascinated about these people? We know the drill.

These people….

Team up with these people…

Then some find some love, some don’t, and all the while they get thrown tasks and new rockets to deal with…

This season’s winter Love Island is also all-new in that the main face, the presenter and all-round goddess in charge of goings-on that is Laura Whitmore. We’ve already got form with The Whitmore, as she is affectionately known, as Team Fake Bake have tanned her before for lots of events.

Now a brilliant all-round presenter and member of BBC Radio 5, the Love Island gig has sent her career up to the next level. And we are so pleased for Laura, as her Aftersun appearances have meant the highest ratings ever for the show.

When called upon to step up to front Love Island, who else was going to tan Laura than us lot? Known for her class, we teamed her up with @toribmakeup to create the perfect Fake Bake finish. Using our pro-version 60 Minutes Tan, she absolutely rocked the launch show, and we are so proud that we helped create that overall winning look, with the help of Tori Bell, an accomplished pro-tanner and MUA extraordinaire.

In fact, we are so thrilled that we are now offering you the chance to get the look at home with this amazing offer.*

60 Minutes is the tan that is perfect for winter months as it allows you tan in just an hour. You can leave it on up to three hours, if you want a winter Love Island result. Or just apply it before the show, and then rinse off afterwards for a gorgeous cold weather skin boost.

Our fave James Harknett, our Global Creative Consultant, has also been talking winter tanning over on Insta. His little tip? Choose a product with a guide colour to see where you are going with the product. For the face, if you want a more subtle approach you can mix your fave faux tan with your moisturiser, for a more dialled down approach for winter wellbeing.

We’re just off to put the kettle on and tune in to Arielle and Kem, and we are always loving their guests, Bobby Norris being a winner for us. He’s a superfan, and so are we.

Meanwhile, over in Hollywood, they’ve just had the SAG Awards, and not only did these two both bring home an award, they have left us with a hint that there could be (and we are praying, people!) for the greatest recoupling of this century.

If we had any yams, we’d ask you to pass them right about now.

All we can do is watch and wait.

FAKE BAKE starts a whole new golden decade…

First of all, everyone at Team Fake Bake wishes you a Happy 2020! We hope you’ll stick with us for another decade. It’s not long until we will be celebrating our 20th Anniversary - any excuse to party, obvs! While we are sitting here still regretting the mince pie consumption of late 2019 and taking in the new series of Love Island (seriously, it’s a cruel twist showing us all that South African sun in January), we decided to escape in our minds by checking out the first red carpet of the year, at The Golden Globes.

We absolutely love the GG’s as they mix up film and TV, and so we get a double hit of everyone we love to look at in one go. The Brits were out in force again. It was great to see Phoebe Waller-Bridge getting awarded for Fleabag once more, and Olivia Colman aced her role as Her Majesty on The Crown, which we have been box-setting over the festive period. We are seriously hooked, but that’s all we have to say about the world’s most famous family right now.

Of course, we also tune into every single step of awards seasons to check out the red carpet looks. Now that TV is seriously rivalling film, it means that you get double the glamour quotient. So we are starting off 2020 by giving a style shout out to those killing it on the carpet.

Jennifer Aniston in Dior Haute Couture

Have you seen The Morning Show? We are loving it, and it’s great to see everyone’s favourite Jen back on the screen, after breaking Instagram last year. Jennifer sticks to a tried-and-tested look that simply works. She’s still a beachy LA kinda girl at heart, so even in couture she loves undone hair and that golden glow says more surfing than serious fashion. A winning style formula, every time.

Scarlett Johansson in Vera Wang

Breathtaking in The Marriage Story, Hollywood’s 2020 classic beauty kept it simple, structural and stylish. We love the combination of that lightly golden skin finish, set off by Bulgari jewels.

Jody Comer in Mary Katrantzou

Our Villanelle is back and went for a hint of 1980’s with a totally contemporary edge. We heart her colourful accessories, too. A modern beauty who is going to shine for many more seasons, and those sculpted cheeks are a hit.

Margot Robbie in Chanel Couture

Picking up nominations and awards is now a regular night out for Ms. Robbie, and she gives that Chanel a casual hint, which we love. Un-sleek hair, golden shoulders and pockets are things we are taking on our next night out.

Zoey Deutch in Fendi

Another Netflix star, this time for The Politician, this new standout star stole stylish hearts by wearing yellow and making it a jumpsuit instead of a dress. Continuing the trend for the lightest touch of glow on the carpet, Zoey also gave the bell sleeve a 2020 seal of approval. One to watch.

Dame Helen Mirren in Dior Couture

Literally, the queen of everything. Need we say more?

Brad Pitt

Does this guy really need an introduction? Plus he beat off some serious competition this time around, but totally deserved his award for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and also for being totally sweet about our fave Jen when asked about her on the red carpet. A classic tan, a classic tux: don’t mess with perfection.

Priyanka Chopra

Our absolutely standout hair and beauty look of the night, Priyanka proved why she’s tinseltown’s most glamorous winner. Talented, understated and a class act: plus, a reminder of why a berry lip can match any diamond.

Winnie Harlow

Winnie went for classic Hollywood waves but a more contemporary eye: we love her sense of individual chic. Dark, dark navy brings edge to all of that glitter.

So, we are currently weighing up all the trends we have seen so far, and colour really seems to be the way forward, with unfussy designs and curve-skimming folding. Hair can be totally sleek or a little more messed-up, and over-baked make-up is a thing of the past. It’s all about being more individual, and we’d like to say it’s about time. It’s that weird time for us out here in the real fashion world, as the sales are over, it’s still chilly, and it’s going to be a while before we get out of our PJ’s. But having a new season to look forward to always keeps us inspired.

In the meantime, Team Fake Bake are busy working on Dancing On Ice, which we’ll be keeping you in the loop about, and some of us will be glued to Love Island pretending it is a Really Important Part Of Our Work. We are starting off this new decade reflecting on how much has changed since the last one began, and that as a brand we will continue to change, and evolve, by always listening to what you have to stay.

Keep your opinions real, your heads held high, and your tans flawless and faux.

Buckle up. We don’t think it’s always great to look back but if this could happen again, we’d be very happy.

Everyone loves a Friends rerun, after all…
