FAKE BAKE Love Island Final Report - so whose type are you?

We feel hungover today. Not properly hungover. Just sad and a bit lost. What are you going to do at 9PM tonight? No, we are not sure either. All that we know is that now we might have to go out of an evening here and there. Apparently a heatwave is about to hit us once more. We may have to see friends, visit family and go on a few dates of our own. Yes, we said it. Instead of watching a stream of ITV2’s finest matching up by that fire pit, we may be forced to actually go out in the world, IRL, speak to someone we don’t know that well and decide if we want to see them again. With no cameras, no App votes to do the choosing for us, and no Iain Stirling to describe what’s going on. We even have to decide on the venue. We don’t just get a text to tell us where we are going. Seriously, what’s that about?

Yesterday, we asked you to pick your winners and, of course, you got it exactly right. How could it not be Jack and Dani? Those two were made for each other, and whilst others were chopping and changing their minds, those two stuck together like glue. From blow drying her eyelashes to supporting the other girls, Dani became the mate we’d all love in our corner. And Jack? Jack has restored our faith in mankind. Not once did he let his head be turned. His eyes were only on Dani. He was also a brilliantly supportive friend, and was always looking after the other lads, and getting them date-ready.

So now the Island is going to be vacated until next summer, we thought we’d sum up our fave girls and match them to your best tans. Because while the programme doesn’t always throw up perfect matches, Fake Bake never fails…..

Dani - Our Original Winner

Before the show aired, Danny Dyer was Danny Dyer. Now Dani Dyer is Dani Dyer, if you see what we mean. An absolute Original, the one whose formula can’t be beaten. You wouldn’t mess with the formulation because it’s a tried-and-tested winner. It’s reliable, trustworthy and always delivers brilliant results, but you could never call it ordinary. Famous for more than one summer, that’s for sure!

Kaz - Our Double Shot Espresso Beauty

Another newbie, gorgeously, seductively skin toned with bundles of energy and a style all of her own. Different from the rest, with a unique finish that came along later than the others but absolutely established itself as worthy of being part of the gang. An instant hit.

Megan - Our Airbrush Gal

A surprise out of the gate, not quite what anyone was expecting at the beginning but once found, fans got used to the formula and grew to love her. Perfection from any 360 degree angle, and one which you never knew you needed until you got one. Now it wouldn’t be quite the same without one. A future classic, and not just pretty packaging.

Laura - Our Flawless Scot

We were always going to love Laura, as she flies the flags for Scottish girls everywhere. She’s well established in a world of newbies, adaptable and that extraordinary formula matches the desired recipient. Popular, seamless and travels well. Our own version of a winner and a stand alone triumph.

Alexandra - Our Flawless Darker Wonder

Classic, dark, alluring and a later addition to the stable. We never knew we needed this one until its arrival. Smooth and adaptable, an absolute joy to look at, your absolute best friend with a huge hint of class shot through it. And works very well on its own. No doctor required.

We are sure going to miss this lot, and we are not sure we can wait until next summer to catch up with them again. Until then, we can go back to the start and go for the first two seasons on Netflix. But for this summer, we’ve got a whole new stable of sayings, and we have definitely learned the lesson that some people, no matter how clever they are and how long they sit on the sun, are destined to never, ever get a tan.

Until we meet again, thank you Love Islanders for a brilliant summer so far. Our nights are going to feel a bit empty without you, but we will never forget you. Because we’re loyal like that. Loyal.

FAKE BAKE talks best bras and boss bikinis with Katie Weir, the Boob Whisperer…..

Team Fake Bake first met Katie Weir when she worked for Tutti Lingerie, and we were so impressed by her outlook on life, that we’ve stayed in touch. Since we last met Katie has been headhunted and worked in Dubai, and her colourful career so far has led her on a valiant journey of experience in the lingerie and apparel industries which have opened the door to her being a female boss and starting Weir Wonderful Fit, a business which educates women of all ages about the importance of bra and swimwear fitting and all round body positivity. We caught up with Katie for an all important sit down. With our holidays coming, and bras that still make us look like we have several boobs a piece, we needed her help……..

Katie, if most of us are wearing the wrong sized bra, how do we know and what can we do?

Most women will KNOW they are wearing the wrong size bra because first of all, they don’t know what bra size they are wearing! Secondly, they will be feeling discomfort, from straps falling off shoulders, and wires digging under the bust giving the dreaded ‘4-boob’ effect under clothing.

I don’t use conventional tape measures and of course I’m going to say, come to someone like me! Once I have assessed you in the bra you are wearing, I can literally tell what size you are and get you ready to try on bras in your right size, and it will involve lots of trialling to make sure bras are perfect just for you. I have to say, I feel like I have a super power because when my clients try on their new bras, they fit and feel fabulous. It’s such a personal thing and again the bras you then select must also reflect your personal style and the type of clothes you wear. Your lingerie is the foundation for every outfit you wear and so it needs to be perfect to make the most of your wardrobe.

My mantra at Weir Wonderful Fit is to lift spirits, busts and confidence. (She’s brilliant at all three. Trust us!)

Is it important that swimwear fits as well as underwear? What’s your advice on getting a great fitting bikini?

It’s just so important that you get the fit right - you want to feel comfortable and look amazing whether you are lying by the pool or going for a stroll along the beach.

My advice is to always wear cup-sized swimwear, whether you choose a bikini, a tankini or a swimsuit. You want support to come from the band and not the straps, especially if you want to go strapless. Some of my favourite brands, like Curvy Kate and Freya, are specialists at this and their fabrics and designs banish mono boobs and use luxury materials so when you get out of the water, there is no ‘sag and bag’ to worry about.
They also have lots of gorgeous cover ups in their ranges, and mix and match choices, to suit your own personal style, so you can look super chic from day to evening.

My tip for this summer is to go for a tie side brief. They are super flattering and it is a great way to custom fit your bikini bottoms. If they feel a bit scary, I always think traditional high waisted 1950’s styles have that Hollywood look about them. It’s then really up to you - go for what suits you but don’t be put off by any one style. It’s your body and your holiday. Go for it!

When it comes to lingerie, is it really worth the investment?

There is no better investment for your wardrobe than a decent, well fitting, lingerie drawer. I always advise ladies to start with four bras, including an everyday T-shirt bra, something pretty/sexy, a strapless bra and a sports bra. You can build on that easily. It’s also really important to look after your lingerie - banish washing machines, fabric conditioners and the tumble drier. Treat your lingerie with some TLC and it will love you right back! And don’t just get one bra fitting during your life - your shape is ever changing so my clients tend to return every six months.

We absolutely love your emphasis on body confidence. As a curvy girl yourself, tell us how you embrace your look……

Thank you! Body positivity has always been a vibe for me, from a young age I have always had curves, and choose to embrace them, dressing them in lingerie and clothing which make me feel wonderful. If you love your body and feel good this will only radiate as confidence. You will stand taller, improve your posture and when you put on a perfectly fitted bra, it really will be a life changing moment!

I’m also inspired by brilliant role models who thrive on social media, like Ashley Graham, Iskra Lawrence and Felicity Hayward. They have brought self love, kick ass, positive vibes to young women, like me and your Fake Bake followers, at a time when it is much needed.

And finally you’ve gone from working in business to setting up on your own. Let us into the secret of your success. We won’t tell anyone….

Confidence, a supportive family, passion and getting to a point in your career where you feel that you don’t have to be carried and you can fly by yourself.

After working in the lingerie industry for others, and gaining such valuable experience, I decided that it was my passion and so I set up Weir Wonderful Fit, a business which reaches out to women to educate them on how to love their boobs. It enables me to bring the latest most wonderful lingerie, swimwear and activewear collections to your home and work! Once you find something you really love to, follow that dream.

I wish to banish the taboo of bra fitting by making it a fun, exciting and friendly experience. I encourage women to join my #CupSizedClique and look forward to opening their lingerie drawer every day.

I am here to lift spirits, busts and confidence, I wish to conquer the world and to ensure that every woman is in perfectly fitted bra because I have first hand felt the confidence boost!

We absolutely loved our catch up with Katie. We know that she travels far and wide, from meetings with female City traders to girls just wanting a great night in, and you know here at Team Fake Bake, we think that gorgeous lingerie is the perfect way to dress up your tan. We are following Katie’s advice and binning bikinis that don’t fit, and going for swimwear that feels more like beach couture than throwaway one summer wonders.

Team Fake Bake are going #CupSizedClique all the way. Are you with us?

FAKE BAKE holiday tanning - feel free to lie, but don’t fry….

This year marks 100 years since women here got the vote, but did you know it’s almost a century since the suntan first became fashionable? Before that, think Downton Abbey pale for the 1920’s girl. Then along came someone who changed all of that. She swapped traditional dresses for knitted tops and wide leg trousers, and came back from a holiday sporting a tan so unusual that everyone wanted to steal her look. Her name? Coco Chanel.

Since then, the tan has had an enduring connection with summer looks, in particular. Back in the day, though, we had no idea how damaging to our skin a dark tan is. And how ageing. One minute you are a Love Island lovely. But keep up with the all day tanning, and one day you wake up and you're Madge from Benidorm. Who we adore, by the way.

In some areas of high fashion, pale is absolutely the standard. But for many of us, having a glow, especially in summer, really makes you feel good, and makes your summer wardrobe just look more fabulous. Sometimes when you put on that new dress or shorts, you just want to look down and swap pale pins for tanned ones. And high fashion still loves the tan. Gisele is rarely seen without one, and we are loving this new cover of U.S. Elle featuring Ariane Grande. Simply stunning. And these girls are skin savvy. Their cover looks are their day jobs, and so they are all about enhancing their skin rather than basting it in the sun, coated in oil.

And you don’t have to think about lying in the sun for hours to get that couture look. Sometimes less is more, and a hint of a golden tan just screams class. Note to self. Check out Kaia Gerber at the recent Valentino Couture, which is just sublime to us.

So, now for the bit where Team Fake Bake get a little bit, er, preachy. It is over a decade since our fave Boss Babe, Sandra Vaughan, petitioned Parliament over her fears concerning sunbeds, which are so over now, they're not even retro. We know you are far more educated now, too, and so we won’t fill this post with facts and figures, but the reality  is, is that skin cancer is still a major concern. Not only that, over exposure to the sun is really ageing for the future, and in the moment, is not a good look. Remember Kim K. We repeat, remember Kim K.

We’re still on a Save Your Skin mission, so that you go on holiday, at home or anywhere else, and look after your beautiful skin. And we are not against the sun. A little bit does you good. It’s not just the feel good factor, but an important way to boost Vitamin D. It also lifts your mood. So what can you do to make sure you stay safe in the sun, and still come home looking amazing. The answer? You gotta mix it up, people….

Before You Go, Amplify Yourself

The bit before you go away is just as important as being away. Treat your skin with a little TLC before you go, and it will repay you in kindness. Exfoliate and moisturise regularly. We love using Fake Bake Amplify for a week before a trip, as it helps boost melanin production in your skin. That’s a bonus. Plus it smooths imperfections and is just a great foundation for what’s to come.

The Night Before, Tan Time

We think a holiday is the perfect time to get a professional Fake Bake tan. You just can’t beat it. You get to chose the formula that suits you, and your specially trained therapist will be able to get to the bits we all struggle with. Sorted.

While You’re There, Fake It, Don’t Bake It!

Do not burn. We repeat, do not burn. This is the worst thing for your skin, ever. It means a lot of damage has been done already, plus it’s really painful and looks awful. Lobster skin is not the way forward.

Be careful out there. Don’t sit out in the sun for hours, and avoid altogether in the middle of the day. Go off, and have a nice lunch and relax. You’re on holiday. You deserve it. And you know those huge straw hats you keep seeing? Get one.

Be armed and fabulous. Always go for a high SPF, which has UVA and UVB coverage. Every brand, even the budget ones, tend to have both now and for that, we salute them. Don’t apply once in the morning and leave it there. Sand, sea water and swimming pools love removing your SPF. Spray parties, the same! Re-apply on the regular.

Take your time. You know that bit when you see people by the pool binge-tanning and trying to get a s dark as possible, as soon as they can? Don’t bother. Pamper yourself. Apply our Fake Bake 5 Minute Mousse when you get out of the shower. Put on whatever you love, because it won’t transfer. It gives you an instant glow and keeps working while you are playing. By the time you are out your tan will be developing, without that old school self tan smell. There is a reason this wins awards, and it’s our holiday must-have.

There you have it. It’s your choice, but as you are already Fake Bake fanatics we know we’ve got you on board. There is nothing worse than waking up after your first night away with fried skin and a hangover. We are all about having a good time, but you can do that whilst enjoying that holiday sun and keeping your skin in check.

The only time you every want to covet leather skin and Chanel is in a 2.55, is it not? Thank you Coco. We are forever in your debt.

FAKE BAKE Summer half term report: Love Island, selfies and specials…..

Come on, admit it. When this series of Love Island started you were all discussing why it wasn’t as good as previous years. We’re going to say it. We still (still!) miss Hanna and Jon, and no one, ever, in the history of entrances, will ever have the same effect as Muggy Mike. But nearly 4 million people can’t be wrong, but because that is how many of us are tuning in, every night. We are loving the dramas, the tans, the swimwear, the dramas, the hairstyles, the drama and of course, the person who has overtaken Adam as this year’s focus of most group chats: Megan.

So we thought we needed a quick half-term report to talk about our fave sayings so far, our best dramatic moments and the couples in the frame for the big win.

Fave Sayings (just three of many)

I’m Loyal - oh hang on, are you? This is Georgia’s most used saying and has been doing the rounds since the start. Is anyone actually loyal? Only time will tell….

I’m Being True To Myself - this is usually delivered after someone has jumped ship and needs everyone to still like them after dumping someone the whole group loves usually for someone the whole group doesn’t. Oops.

I’m Just Going On a Date, Babe - this is usually delivered within a couple when one of them then does, in fact, go on a date, and flirts outrageously and then forgets the person they are coupled up with.

Our Best Bits So Far (too many to mention)

Jack’s Pretty Much Everything - from that canvas of Danny Dyer above his bed, to his world class performance as fifteen stone of South London Beef, to his impressions, there is nothing we don’t love about this geezer and he’s a real lesson about not being bothered about a six pack and just being a lovely boy. And we’ve even fallen for his teeth.

Kiss Gate - ah Georgia. A kiss on a reality show has been discussed all over the media. It was even covered in the Radio Times, which our grandmas read. They’ve been playing it on every angle using VAR, and we still think Georgia is not really telling it as it is. We still love her though. We are with Dani on that one. And we can’t wait for Laura to see it.

Wes Fights Back - now we did learn a lesson from the boys here. After Casa Amor, when a girl gets dumped they tend to talk to their mates and have a good moan. Wes didn’t. He played it clever, and kept it cool. And when the time came, he stole his girl back in a timely fashion. An absolute masterclass in self belief. Oh, and he knows his away around parmesan.

Hayley’s Hayleisms - she is absolutely the one character we miss, along with Adam. Yes, we miss Adam. We’re not apologising, we grew to love him. As did most of the girls in there. But we do miss Hayley and the fact that she turned up to do the show, but didn’t really want to do the show. From her views on Brexit, to Eyal’s spirituality and Charlie’s eyebrows, her surprise that the show is, in fact a game, was brilliant. Oh, and we miss Eyal as well.

The Doctor Will See You Now - it’s not been a romantic summer for our Alex but he has well overtaken last year’s Marcel in terms of giving out advice and just being a shoulder to cry on for everyone in there. But we have a suspicion that they really need to send in a LI version of Kate Middelton to really find him love.

Dani’s Lashes - the beauty moment of the summer. Blow drying your lashes with a hairdryer and a teeny-tiny brush. And clearly, braids are big news. Braids all the way, girls.

The Runners and Riders (at the moment)

Jack and Dani - solid since the beginning, these two have only had a few little hurdles to get over and if they don’t win there will be a mutiny. And clearly, we want to see a big wedding with all of the cast of The Business there to cheer them on.

Wes and Megan - we know Megan has taken on a sort of panto villain role but the show wouldn’t have been the same without her. And we do actually think that these two may actually be Coming Home. This will be our only reference to anything Coming Home this week. You get the picture.

Josh and Kaz - Josh has just been saved, so we are not sure if these two can win us all round, but give them a bit of time.

So that’s our half term report so far. We are always posting about the show on our Social Media channels so feel free to join in….

FAKE BAKE gets pale beauties golden for high summer….

The days of one beauty ideal ruling our media is well and truly over. You no longer have to categorise yourself in a box. And even when you look in the mirror, you can change up your look whenever you want to suit your mood. Beauty in 2018 is a fun, democratic process. At least, it is here at Team Fake Bake. Back in the day, the tan was hard earned on a holiday and showed off when you returned. And if you were a pale beauty, then there was very little you could do. Then when the first wave of self tans arrived you could at least get a glow. The problem for a pale beauty was that they tended to work best on more olive skins. So your only choice was pale, or orange. That was before Fake Bake. Now, you have a choice.

Pale skin is something to be proud of and if you want to wear it that way, all year round, then that’s a personal choice and a brilliant one. But we know from talking to you that sometimes you want to just dial up your skin tone a little. You don’t want to go full scale mahogany, but especially during the summer, or on holiday, you like to just add a bit of warmth.

Doing so by sitting in the sun is an absolute no-no. Take Dr. Alex. See, we don’t even have to explain. This guy is a trained doctor. We are putting on our best Ian Stirling voice as we say it. Has it stopped him sitting in the sun and frying? No. Has he gone any darker as the weeks have passed? No. All that has occurred is that he just gets pinker and pinker. So if someone with all of that medical training is risking his skin to get a tan he’s never going to get, we needed to remind him there is an alternative.

And we thought we’d give you a gentle nudge as well. Ever since we launched our Save Your Skin campaign a decade ago we still keep getting the message out about safe tanning, but for pale beauties we can’t tell you how important it is. Your skin has less melanin, so trying to get it to come the surface of your skin by sitting in the skin doesn’t work.

So what does? Well, of course, we have the answer. But first we wanted to check out some pale skinned beauties who get the look just right and inspire us to do the same.

Blogger Karolina Gliwa stays in the shade and lets her look shine…

TV beauty Ashley Louise James lives her best life and rocks those curves, tan courtesy of Fake Bake….

Love Island podcaster star and Fake Bake fave Arielle proves that’s it is redheads who are really having all the fun…

Supermodel Alexina Graham is just after dark perfection…..

Ocean’s 8 star Dakota Fanning gets that red carpet glow on point……

Our very own Fake Bake training teams are absolute experts in getting the look right….

Fake Bake Fair is the ultimate in colour that you can build and layer. It has our famous colour guide, but is less intense than our superstar Original. We know from talking to you that a lot of you find gradual tans barely make a difference. We designed Fair so that it starts off with a subtle, overall glow that you can use each night until you get to the shade that you want, that suits your skin tone. Our blended range of tanning agents means there is not a hint of orange, and Fair works with your own skin tone to get the ultimate in natural results. No patches and no streaks, guaranteed. Fair skinned babes who are concerned about the drying effects of self tanning can rest easy. Fair is packed full of moisturising agents to keep your skin soft and smooth all summer long. It smells gorgeous and fades evenly, ready for when you want to re-apply.

So there you have it, the perfect solution to getting a little golden without the sun, so that gorgeous skin of yours stays that way. When it comes to skin, pink is not pretty but for all of you pale skin beauties, celebrate who you are and get ready to get your shorts on and your pins out. And as for the orange approach tanning, we’ll leave it to Moschino and Kaia Gerber.
