FAKE BAKE talks being a First Time Mummy with Glasglow Girls Club’s Laura Maginess…

One group of us we know are really going through a very different time right now are First Time Mummies. We all went into lockdown watching some of our fave mummies on screen. Sam and Billie Faiers have made such a huge success of their ITVBe show The Mummy Diaries on ITVBe. Whilst both the girls live a fabulous lifestyle, so many of you have talked to us in our conversations about how much you relate to the show. No matter who you are, all new mums experience so much common ground with young children: from the tantrums to the joys, we love seeing it on screen. Oh, and we are all nuts about Nelly. She’s definitely one of the stars of the show...

We loved hanging out with Sam and Billie at the NTA’s with Ferne - pictured here with our gorge friend Jess Wright..

And we are all enjoying the new season of First Time Mum on ITVBe starring Ferne McCann and her equally gorgeous daughter, Sunday. As a new mum with a young child and a career to work on, Ferne’s humour and honesty make it a great watch. We know from talking to our team, family, friends and colleagues that being a first time mum is a particularly challenging time now. So we thought we’d catch up with the amazing Laura Maginess of Glasglow Girls Club, whose little girl is just about to celebrate being 16 weeks old. As an entrepreneur building a business, as well as looking after Bella-Rose first and foremost, we thought she’d be the best person to chat to. During a week when new mums like Carrie Symonds and mums-to-be like Gigi Hadid are in the news, we are right on topic.

We are super-proud of our gorge friend Lydia and her beautiful new daughter, Loretta.

Here’s what Laura told us when we sat down for a Zoom chat...

Laura, what’s it like being a first time mum during lockdown?

I would say it’s hard and magical in equal measure.  The hard part being the lack of physical contact with family members.  Lockdown officially began when Bella-Rose was 9 weeks and now over 15 weeks she has changed and developed so much in that time.  We keep up with the grannies and papas and aunties and uncles everyday on FaceTime/ Zoom and WhatsApp calls, but nothing beats getting a cuddle and interacting in person.

The magical part for my husband and I is the focused bonding time.  Lee would be out working full time if we were not in lockdown and so he would be missing all the daytime interactions when Bella-Rose is at her most energetic. With the weather being so lovely too, we have been out in the garden loads, in the paddling pool and tent and Bella is getting to experience so many new things in the fresh air which I think is so important when we are in lockdown. Our 1 hour walks a day are a highlight too, as she gets to marvel at the trees and nature and get that wee imagination going!

Do you have any advice for expectant mums on how to keep their spirits up?

Online classes are a must for new mums!  Bella-Rose and I do Tots Play with Clare Kerr which incorporates sensory, sign language, baby massage and music and we do Zumbini with Libby Smith, which is a mixture of music, dance and sensory (incorporating music from around the globe and different languages, which is truly amazing - Bella-Rose will prob know Spanish before me!!). Classes are an amazing way to bond and encourage development with your baby. Out of lockdown they are a great way to meet new mums too and from the classes I am in WhatsApp groups with other mums where we can ask each other advice, which is really lovely.  Online classes also give you ideas for things to do with your baby when not doing a class like creating sensory toys!

Also joining Facebook groups like the Glasglow Girls Club is great as there are 20K women in there with whom you can ask anything!  Parenting tips and ideas are a regular feature. What’s more, they offer that feeling of community, which we are all missing at the moment!

We love collaborating with Glasglow Girls Club - how are you staying connected and are you excited about future plans?

Aw thank you, we LOVE partnering with Fake Bake too! As I am still on maternity my mind is whizzing with ideas to launch later in the year, but at the moment I am staying connected with members via the Facebook groups, GGC quiz nights and online classes that are being run for members but the team. Also excitingly, to keep the positivity glowing and flowing I have partnered with Fake Bake to launch The Glow Show, which incorporates both a positivity movement across insta (search #theglowshow for a wee nosey) and also a chat show running with your very own Victoria Halliday.  More details on this will be announced shortly @glasglowgirlsclub!!!

Something I am most definitely excited about is the events starting up again.  The GGC run a fabulous bi-monthly brunch with the Radisson RED (Fake Bake were one of our first sponsors) and just before lockdown kicked in we were set to launch The Supper Club at the Corinthian in partnership with Fake Bake.  At this we had This Morning presenter Josie Gibson, Dancing on Ice winner Alex Murphy, Entertainer and comic Christine Sparks and Fake Bake Boss Babe Sandra Vaughan booked to talk success during a slap up three course meal!!  Cannot wait to relaunch that event!!

How are you managing with your beauty routine - do you ever have time for a quick Fake Bake tan?

Yes always! I love make-up free days but having a wee Fake Bake glow, makes me feel more confident without my slap.  I am really naturally pale which, I think, makes me look tired and this in turns makes me feel tired. I honestly feel like glowing up with Fake Bake puts a spring in my step!! When I was pregnant I tended to rely on wash-off tans, and now I’m really enjoying some of the latest self tan additions to the Fake Bake range. As I am quite pale I love Fake Bake Fair Gradual Self Tan Lotion.

I also love Fake Bake Tanning Water as it is so quick and easy to apply with its mousse formula. When I am in a hurry it is a godsend.

When I have a little bit of time, which isn’t often, I really like to have a little Fake Bake pamper time to make sure my Fake Bake tanning products do their best work. Fake Bake Coconut Body Polish is fabulous to use during these warmer months to keep your skin smooth and prepped.

I also use Fake Bake Oil Free Mistifier all the time, and not just after tanning, as it keeps skin really hydrated without and stickiness, and is so easy to spritz on after a shower!

The GGC membership now incorporates online fitness classes and activities, a Book Club and exclusive online events to help keep our members entertained and inspired during lockdown. Our business community incorporates regular training vids and Q&As with business experts as well as a weekly virtual coffee and networking opportunity for members to keep all connected.  Find out more about becoming a member here www.glasglowgirlsclub.com

We absolutely loved catching up with Laura and can’t wait to attend amazing GGC events with Laura and her team again...

For anyone who is pregnant and expecting their first child at this time we have loved catching Dr. Sarah Jarvis and her segments on The Jeremy Vine Show. We think she’s so factual and brilliant so if you want to catch her valued opinion got to:

We are still doing our bit as best we can here at Team Fake Bake to keep everyone’s beauty spirits up during this time.

Our Fake Bake Mystery Bag is still available on our website - priced at just £20, it is packed full of £100 worth of goodies. Our aim here is to support independent therapists in the UK who are finding the current situation a real struggle.

There is still 30% off for NHS workers. Let’s help keep our key workers’ morale up…

Our Hand Sanitiser comes in a bumper sized bottle and we are distributing Sanitiser to those in the community who are finding themselves without a home at this time from the proceeds of the sales.

For all of you expectant mums, first time mums and experienced mums we also wanted to give a shout-out to this amazing book by one of our fave mums, Giovanna Fletcher. Heartwarming and enthralling, it’s the perfect read for right now.

We are sending you all our love and want you all to stay safe and well.

Oh, and by the way, how is your hair?
