FAKE BAKE talks Coachella 2019 First Weekend and asks...what would Kaia Gerber do?

In the grand scheme of festivals, Coachella is still the baby on the block, but this weekend saw the Californian cultural destination of choice celebrating it’s 20th Anniversary. Back in the day, in 1999, it was all about Beck, the Chemical Brothers, and a free bottle of water on the way in. My, how things have changed.

Now Coachella is the start of our Festival Summer, and while it hasn’t got Glastonbury’s history, it has its own sense of glamour, which means we love it. Of course, it’s about the music, first and foremost and this weekend was no easy intro, as we were taken by surprise and waited in anticipation.

Selena Gomez, ultimate artist and the absolute Queen of Instagram, did not disappoint…

Blackpink made stage history and absolutely rocked our biker boots off…

Ariane Grande, what more can we say?

Like any great festival, though, Coachella is all about being seen, looking at who’s about, and of course, checking out what everyone is wearing. Plus, catching trends means we can get some tips for our own summers. Festivals, pool parties, holidays, going out-out, it never hurts to get an early start. So we thought we would pick out of our fave looks from the first weekend, and get a flavour of things to come for Spring/Summer 2019.

The VS girls at the Revolve party

So this isn’t exactly new style news, but it never hurts to be reminded of what works. Take great fashion forward pieces, and the VS girls have done so here by opting for an almost pretty approach, and then toughen it up with footwear and gone logo crazy with accessories. Dior clogs. Seriously, we are all in? Where can we get them?

Olivia Culpo

Our fave Stateside sister and Fake Bake fan nailed every trend in one look. Mustard. Check. Print playsuit. Check. Tan accessories. Check. Banging, major plait. Check. Toned, tanned pins. Absolutely.

Rachel and Anne Lynne McCord

OK, so this isn’t the subtle approach to festival dressing. This is the go-all-out point of view, and why not? Fringing, backpacks, 80’s hair accessories and legs for days. Come on, if you’ve got it, why not Coachella flaunt it?

Michelle Randolph

This U.S. actress got everyone on Team Fake Bake talking. Not everyone can get away with this look, and it’s really current, but surely Coachella is all about fun and not about taking style too seriously? Acid brights, cycling shorts, THAT Gucci bumbag and statement shades are all glammed up with a golden glow and seriously flowing locks. We heart this look.

Kaia Gerber

OK, so at just 17 Kaia wasn’t born when Coachella first started, but being the world’s youngest supermodel certainly gets you a VIP pass, does it not? We actually love Kaia’s understated approach to festi-glam, and when she wasn’t in double denim we loved this retro bucket hat and semi, cut-off, kick-flare jeans. Very 1999, but SO no last century.

Charlotte Dawson

In and amongst the crowd, we love spotting someone we know so Charlotte Dawson, in her own inimitable style, has shaken up California, and, quite literally, gone for it. Our favourite Northern style lass, who has her own brand of festi-chic she likes to call Chazella, has been rocking around West Hollywood, styling up her Freda Funk range and generally having a blast. Why go all that way to be boring? Having spent some time with our Chazza, boring is something she is chuffing not. Plus, she’s a real girl living her best life. Our type of woman, all day long.

Tash Oakley

Swimwear entrepreneur, Insta genius and all round genuine gal, Tash Oakley, looked, basically, how we would like to look if we were heading to Coachella. Proving you can never go wrong in neutral shades, tan accessories and lashings of gold, she definitely gives good hair and very, very good tan.

So we have looked at so many images are heads are spinning, and seen so much footage our earlobes ache, but we are already looking forward to next weekend. One thing we have noticed is that a Californian skin finish never goes out of style, so if you are feeling a little Coachella inspired and want to join in next weekend, what would we suggest?

If you want to go for the all out glam tan, then try our Fake Bake Double Shot Espresso Tan, with serious colour guiding, so that you can get that all-over super dark look.

If you want to go subtle, and try a buildable and quick-and-easy tan, pre-order our new Fake Bake Tanning Water, which goes on like a dream and we can guarantee won’t transfer onto your gorgeous, new season pieces.

We can’t guarantee we’ll get California sunsets over the coming Bank Holiday weekend, but the word ‘holiday’ should feel leave you feeling a little inspired and ready to embrace that Coachella spirit. So we are not flying in on a private jet, but we can definitely load up the live feed, get the girls around and go a bit mad with our barnets.

What would Stevie Nicks do? And if you don’t know who Stevie Nicks is, then why are you reading this post? Why?
