So, Coachella is over but for so many of us
who didn’t make it, our own summer festival journey is about to begin. But
before we all dig out those tried-and-tested festi-glam looks, we are getting
new kinda style feels from our Stateside sisters. Before Kaia Gerber rocked up at the first weekender, she posted this image
on her Insta of her new campaign for YSL
Beauty.
It simply
gave us life. Listen, we’ll throw on glitter and stick our head in a bucket of
flowers if we need to. No-one would dare to call Team Fake Bake, Team Fake Boring. But, this pic also kind of
signalled that change was coming. Which sounds very hippy and very Woodstock,
but there you go. How so? Well, it’s
subtle, isn’t it? Now, we are not suggesting you just slap on a bit of
eyeliner and go, unless that’s your thing, and if you want to rhinestone bra
yourself to V Festival and back, then that’s your good. But we like a bit of a
refreshing change, and it seems that it’s not just Kaia who is adopting a more
pared-down look.
Ariana Grande
We are not
suggesting the Queen of Coachella ‘19
would see this a natural look to walk to Aldi in, but we do love a Grande pony.
Plus she’s wearing one hellavu headband, and they are definitely this season’s
find.
Them VS ladies
They’ve been
at it again girls, but this time we are loving the dialled-down style. Plus Jas brings Julia Roberts
Pretty-Woman-At-The-Polo look to this century. Casually fabulous, and not a
flower garland in sight.
Winnie Harlow
This is kind
of casual, but Winnie is seriously not. Neon dress plus trainers. Don’t bother
with pink hair accessories. No need to with pink hair, is there?
Olivia Culpo
Our amazing Tanya Pongrac Fake Bake tanned
Olivia once more for Coachella this year, and what mighty fine results they
achieve. We love this 1992 rave-in-the-desert look, too. Sporty. Cute.
Flawless.
(We do love
that we call that a Bum Bag here in Britain, though. Fanny Pack. Two words that
just don’t roll in our world…)
Jilly Isabella
Lynne Kellow Beauty in Glasgow are responsible for this gorgeous Fake Bake glow. OK, so it’s
not a subtle fashion look, but the accessories are really kept simple. We love
the natural hair and fierce cowboy boots, also.
Hayley Baldwin
What is this
all about? Being comfortable? When was being comfy outdoors a thing? Going pure
retro, Hayley is the new face of Levi
501 jeans, and we have to say, they make a change from skinnies. Love ‘em.
So we caught
up with one of our fave MUAs, Alison
Grainger, who created this look for us, inspired by the Coachella stills we know she has avidly
spied on for us. These are her words…
“Firstly,
and this goes without saying, get your
SPF on. My clients really look after their skin, so I am seeing less with
sun damage now, as we are all becoming much skin wiser. If you want a tan,
create your own with Fake Bake The Face
Anti-Ageing Self Tan Lotion. I love the way Olivia Culpo wears her Fake Bake tan - she’s a class act!
You really
have to practice your make-up when you
are using self tan as it obviously alters your complexion. I love that Fake Bake are creating their own
Masterclass around this theme - it’s much needed, as us MUA’s are
perfectionists.
Here’s the
look you want to create: not a care in the world, but super-groomed all at the
same time. And if you are camping it up, you need to pack smartly and use products that multi-task. With this
look, I’ve made the eyes the focus, and deep greens, blues and azures are so
cute right now. My big tip is to create
your own festi-kit, and pack it full of budget buys. There’s nothing worse
than taking your best bits away, and worrying about losing them. I love super pigmented highlighters right
now, and I think you can’t beat stick
and pencil formulations if you don’t want to pack lots of brushes. Lip gloss is definitely back, and feels
much more natural in summer than a matte lip. I’ve gone for minimal bronzer here and I try and keep
brows really natural - I am really
not a fan of overdone beauty. More and more of my clients want something natural
now, too.
Finally,
take your Fake Bake Flawless Survival
Kit with you. If you are away for a few days, you can top up your Fake Bake tan if you need to, and it’s trio helps you
prep, moisturise and tan. Then it’s time to make for the stages and forget
about your lashes for a bit. If they stay on, or come off, well, isn’t that the
sign of a Festival well done?”
We’re with
Alison on that one. And there is still time to book in for our Fake Bake The Art Of The Spray Tan
Masterclass with self tan supremo Emily
Jacobs and top MUA Stacey Toner in
Glasgow on 13th May 2019. It brings together how to create a flawless tan
and then perfecting the most beautiful make-up to go along with it. Just in
time for looking amazing this summer, it’s the best way to kick off your Festi
season in super style.
So it’s time
to leave behind the over-rhinestone’d look, perhaps. A new dawn awaits. It
certainly seems like a long time since we checked out what Kate Moss and Sienna Miller were wearing for festivals. (As in not
just seems like a long time…..it was a long time! Ah how we remember the mini
dresses, the Hunters, the boho chic and the maxi-dress. What a time to be
alive…)
Thank you to
everyone in California for keeping
us entertained and style informed for the last two weekends, but we’ll take it
from here, thanks. Us Brits are still the best at knowing how to run the show,
and you know, while we are all about the glam we also know how to cope in a mud
landslide, your tent turning inside out, or your fanny pack pinging off during
the set.
Sorry, we’ve
brainwashed there for a bit. It’s a Bum Bag, people. A Bum Bag.
