After
chatting to super stylist Jess Walsh last
week, we carried on the conversation back at Team Fake Bake. As Jess had told us her most covetable piece of all
time was from Cartier, which had us
nodding our heads, we got together and picked our all time Top 10 Most Covetable Accessories. We do love a trend. We are not
going to lie. Between writing this, and posting it, if any of us win the Euro
Millions we have decided everyone on the team deserves a piece of the stylish
action. But until that happens we can keep striving, dreaming, scrolling and
just putting our Accessories Vibe out into the Universe.
Chanel - the bag of all bags,
n’est-ce pas?
Bags could
have a Top 10 all of their own. Earlier this season we looked at the Dior Saddle Bag and the Fendi Baguette.
But whatever bags wax, wane and then return, no one can argue that Chanel are just the masters at
producing bags that make us weep. Literally. The 2.55 is the ultimate classic. Designed by Coco, perfected by Karl and
about to be re-energised by Virginie
Viard but really, there’s not one in the range that we don’t adore. The
workmanship is just beautiful. If you can, if you are going to buy one, do go
to the Rue Cambon in Paris. If it’s
once in a lifetime, get it right. What will Virginie do with the 2.55? Watch this space….
Dior - puts all other sunglasses into
the shade…
There are
classic glasses, current glasses and ones that date really, really quickly. As
an entry level accessory, they still aren’t a budget buy, but if you save for a
rainy day and then spend it on a sunny one, glasses are the one buy that lift
your look. The trick is to forget the pair everyone else is going for and
actually go for ones that suit your face shape. Christian himself knew exactly what women wanted when he created
the New Look, and now under Maria Grazia
Chiuri, the label manages to combine the history of Dior style whilst making it street chic and savvy. Go make like Gigi.
Christian Louboutin - putting the
high into heels…
This is such
a hotly contended space. Shoe wise, we could go to a Top 20 without breaking a
sweat. But Louboutin have suddenly
re-emerged as victor when it comes to the heel. The world of heels has so many
established names that Christian almost
feels like the new kid on the block, but the latest collection makes us want to
invest in that infamous sole just one more time. Spot on.
Louis Vuitton - a lot of carry on,
the very best luggage…
There is no
other luggage. There. Is. None. And yet LV
have been modernising beyond belief of late, and we hate to say it, but the
signature canvas print appears to be taking a back seat. It will always be
covetable. You cannot deny a legacy like Louis.
But their lightweight, beautifully bright carry-on is easy to spot. I mean,
if you are on a private plane it’s not an issue, but still. Acid bright and
fabulous.
Gucci - adjust your belts, people…
Oh, Gucci. What a family history this
label has. If you don’t know about it, read about it: it is pure scandal. And
what Tom Ford re-gifted to us, Alessandro Michele continues to give us more of what we
want. OK, so the double GG belt is
becoming a bit, er, common place, but the latest versions are souped up,
intricate, and all about luxury. Again, not exactly a bargain but definitely
worth the investment as this signature piece literally elevates your G-game.
New Double G, how we adore thee.
Salvatore Ferragamo - anything but
flat when it comes to a classic pump…
The classic
ballet pump has been that overdone, it’s probably having a little lie down
somewhere. But, sometimes, we are in need of a flat shoe, when something more
polished than a flip flop is required. Step forward, Salvatore Ferragamo. Still a family company, under chief designer Paul Andrew, this label has taken it’s
classics, as beloved by Audrey Hepburn,
and brought them right up to 2019. Basically, we can’t resist an Italian.
There, we said it.
Cartier - the ultimate gold wrist
candy….
We know
there are cooler watches, more fashion-forward timepieces and we don’t even
need to name names, but nothing dates more than a really current watch.
(Remember Jacob and Co?!) Cartier are
the very opposite, and yet the winds of change have blown through this
jewellery house and timepieces that have been mainstays have been deleted. What
comes in their place are still everything Cartier
stand for, but with a little edge. The very definition of an investment
piece.
Hermes - seriously, is there even another
scarf?
Scarves can
be a tricky business. Get it wrong, and you look like a 1980’s travel agent.
And this is one area where cheap and cheerful is just not on - if you can’t
stretch to silk it is probably better to leave it. But a Hermes scarf is a thing of beauty. This label is quietly decadent,
hugely expensive and has its own history that is hard to match. But we haven’t
included the Birkin or the famous H logo
belt here because they are so copied, we can’t deal. But is is hard to copy
a scarf like this, but once you have one, it will live as long as you do.
Perfect to twist through your hair this summer. Dream on.
Valentino - the ultimate in sport
luxe…
Valentino was once the go-to label for very
rich society ladies who just liked to lunch. Now, under Pierpaolo Piccoli, the mega-wealthy still get their couture
fix, but the accessories have gone from the penthouse to the pavement. The
perfect way to get your kicks, and the only legit way to do style you can stand
up in.
Fendi - so the purse belt is a thing
now?
A future
classic. The last time we had a purse belt was in primary school, and it was
quite useful then as well, but this beauty takes utility chic to a whole new
level. Room for your essentials and you can’t leave it behind.
And two
extras, because couldn’t help ourselves…..
Jimmy Choo - the perfect summer boot
joy…
Sometimes a
cross-season boot makes senses and no-one does a boot quite like Choo. Made famous by the great man
himself, and turned into the label we love by Tamara Mellon, Jimmy Choo has returned to form and these beauties
have future classic written all over them.
Versace - trust Donatella to invent
something we now need…
If a slider
hasn’t got Versace bonded across it,
is it even a slider? We know this piece of wonder is part of a decoration on
cute boots, but really, we want one of these to swinging around our tanned
ankles this summer, and every summer after. The ultimate, ultimate touch of
glamour.
So now we’ve
got our lust list together. How do we put a whole look together and add a
classic, timeless, beautiful tan. Inspired by gorgeous NYC blogger Brooke Carrie Hil, we put together our own classic
show….
When it
comes to a classic tan, our Fake Bake
Original is our groundbreaking product that is still a bestseller after two
decades. It’s all about the effort with this one, so prep with our Fake Bake Coconut Body Polish first.
It’s super gente and its new gel formula rinses off clean and fresh. When it
comes to Original choose between
going for a professional application tan with a therapist, or our retail version. Either way, it’s not a
quick spray! But what we can guarantee is an even, long lasting result with
staying power. This is our classic for a reason - it sticks around longer than
any other tan, but fades evenly.
Fashion is
all about feeling inspired, and we all love a little luxury, so next week we’ll
be looking at some of our High Street
Accessory hacks. We may not all have a 2.55 budget, but we can definitely
have a luxury tan.
Start saving
now. See you on the other side of 2059.
